Abstract
A case of non-functioning adrenal cortical carcinoma is reported. The patient was a 46 years old male who had complained a progressively growing abdominal mass. No significant laboratory findings or evidence of hormonal disturbance was clinically noted.
The tumor was multilobular but well encapsulated, measurering 20¡¿15¡¿7 §¯ in size and weighing 500 grams. Cut surface also showed lobular appearance due to broad septa connected to the capsule. The tumor tissue showed coleidoscopic appearance due to hemorrhage, necrosis and fibrosis.
Microscopically, the tumor tissue closely resembled to zona fasciculata of the adrenal cortex in well differentiated areas, But at the other areas, the tumor showed marked cellular pleomorphism with tumor giant cells and increased mitotic activities. The amount of lipid was varied according to the degree of cellular dedifferentiation was significant enough to regard the lesion as a malignant one.
A brief review of the literature was also made.
